Have been re-evaluating this blog. I originally began the blog because I had broken my foot & wanted a “Band-Aid” (or the equivalent) for my foot. Was sad, was depressed, was angry at my boyfriend — you know. Beyond the depths of despair. Okay. Being a little dramatic here. But, was NOT a happy camper. The blog helped me get on with my life. And, maybe saved sanity a little. (I don’t use drugs!!!)

Anyways, I dropped some stuff on my foot & sprained it a little & it’s all swollen & black & blue — but, not as bad as before. Thank the Lord!!! So, back to the blog Band-Aid.

Think I just want to report on all the “Band-Aid” type stuff that’s going on. Sounds like WAAY more fun than insurance. Don’t you think??? If, not — feel free to comment or ask question. Still an insurance agent here. LOL.

Saw this entertaining bit on You Tube about the Apple I-Phone Band-Aid. Hilarious & informational at the same time. The part about the “band-aid” starts at 1.40 mins. These Band-Aids are sold through Etsy.com. They’re an online handmade goods site. http://www.etsy.com/shop/Antennaid

The health of children is very important. Because they are constantly growing and developing, it is critical to have regular medical care to insure that the developing is normal and that no complications are discovered. We all have heard the horror stories of children that have no health insurance coverage. For parents with children who have no coverage or cannot afford coverage, there are options you might not be aware of.

Making sure every child has health care available is possible through excellent government programs such as Medicaid. Medicaid helps parents in the low or no income bracket. This is a welcome piece of mind for single parents attending school to help improve their future standard of living for themselves and their children. Transition times can be frightening without such needed help.

Medicaid is primarily for the low income, but there are also excellent programs for those will higher incomes. While income will determine which programs you will qualify for. Regardless of financial status, all children can receive free or be part of one of the excellent subsidized health programs. Being able to see the doctor, dentist, or go to the hospital when needed, should always be available for any child at any time their health is threatened.

Getting all the information you will need to see if you qualify is easier than the ole days and can be done from the comfort of your own home. Most all state and federal programs have websites to help anyone looking for information about anything thing they offer. Make sure you check with the state you are a resident of to get the right information. In most instances, you will be required to fill out some required basic financial information forms.

You will most likely find it will take longer to find and include all the necessary paper work needed, make copies, and see that all are included to be sent out to the proper office. As most everyone knows, waiting for any response seems to make any process seem longer. When you finally do get a response, you will know what your monthly cost will be for coverage. This response will be followed by information on your children providers, all the rules you are expected to follow for hospital or specialist care.

Some helpful guidelines for choosing the right life insurance policy

If you’ve made a decision for a life insurance policy, then you should sincerely think about the type of policy that would be most suitable for you. You must take into consideration the premium and other advantages like financial benefits. Subsequently, you should tally your needs with the policies for obtaining the best services.

As soon as you’ve decided to insure your life, your next job is selecting a good life insurance policy. This is certainly not easy when there are so many insurance products, companies and coverages.

Life insurance offers you financial security along with death benefits. You can make the right selection if you explore various insurance companies and their policies based on some particular guidelines.

Some of the guidelines for selecting the right life insurance policy are given below:

Assess the various types of life insurance

You should know about the various types of life policies i.e. whole life, term life and their subtypes. The purpose is to have an all-inclusive idea. You have to tally these policies with your needs on the basis of funds assigned and returns anticipated. When you make a decision on this, your selection is restricted to the specific policy or policies within that type. Selecting the best among these policies based on other factors is simple once you effectively evaluate types of life insurance.

Financial limitations

This is also quite important in selecting an insurance policy. Before buying a policy, you should always determine if you can manage to pay the premiums. Capacity to pay should be worked out for the whole term of the policy. In addition, you should be ready to tackle unexpected expenses. You should also work out whether you can fulfill them and make your premium payments at the same time.

Some policies get terminated if you fail to pay the premiums on time and the others permit you to draw a part as loans. Nevertheless, if you take out a loan from your policy, you should be ready to sacrifice a portion of the death benefits. So before buying a policy, it’s best to verify whether you can make the premium payments without fail in any situation. It’s also important to check you’re not paying premium for coverage you don’t need.

Perform suitable market research

You should collect details about the most common life insurance policies in the market. If you request quotes from various insurers and talk about them with your insurance agent, you can get a better understanding of the market conditions. You would also get some idea about the competitive benefits of one policy over another by comparing life insurance quotes. Not only would this help you get market details, but also assist you to negotiate and obtain the most affordable rate.

Following the aforementioned guidelines would definitely help you find the right policy.

This post is about how I received a lump-sum payment from ACCESS AMERICA because I wasn't able to travel when I injured my foot. GO ACCESS AMERICA TRAVEL INSURANCE!!

I have excellent news!!! Remember I told you that I had purchased Travel Insurance from ACCESS AMERICA?? Before I broke my foot, I had plans to go to College Station, TX. I wisely bought the “Travel Insurance” when I purchased my airline tickets. My boyfriend wouldn’t spring for the insurance when he bought our tickets for Vegas. And, because I wasn’t able to go — he was just out the cost of the airline tickets for me. He also had to endure Vegas without me being there – but, such is his rotten luck.

Maybe I had a premonition, I don’t know. But, cheapie me bought the travel insurance. I had had a very bad case of the flu a couple of weeks before I bought the tickets. I really just thought that maybe I might just come down with something serious like the Bubonic Plague or something else that would render me unable to get out of bed. I NEVER thought I would break anything!! I had never broken a bone in my life before and no one else in my family of seven children has ever broken anything either. (None of the nieces or nephews, either.) Somehow I thought I was invincible.

After I broke my foot and was in such horrible pain, I filled out the forms and got the doctor to sign the forms, giving his permission for me not to travel. Well, the other day I received a check from them for $313.33!!!! (Enclosed please find check in the amount of $313.33 as payment for “Trip Cancellation” due to “Injury of insured”.) I didn’t have to bug them or call them twenty-two times — they just paid the claim. GO ACCESS AMERICA!!!

You never know when you’re going to step in a hole and break something. I am planning to buy the travel insurance from now on. It cost me less than twenty bucks.

There’s a new trend in self-protection: WASP Spray. Some say it’s a preferable alternative to pepper spray for protection against assailants. Here is a little story that’s been posted on the Internet:

“A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was
Concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them
When they were counting the collection. She asked the local police
Department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that
She get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn’t attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could — save – your life.

Val Glinka, from Ohia, teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School . For decades, he’s suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Here’s a Video about it:

Glinka says, “This is better than anything I can teach them. “Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than Mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so If someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says “spray the Culprit in the eyes”. It’s a tip he’s given to students for decades.

It’s also one he wants everyone to hear. If you’re looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray. “That’s going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out.” Maybe even save a life. “

I’ve seen this article smatterred about the internet and I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, police suggest that if someone is trying to rob you – just give them your money and then call 911. True — it would be good to escape unharmed. But, how does one know that’s all the robber is going to do to you?? Sometimes, they like to beat people up, (that they’ve robbed), just because they think it’s fun (or whatever the hell they think!)

The police say that it might be against the law in some areas to use wasp spray on an assailant because that’s NOT the “intended use” of the product. They say you could get sued for attacking an assailant like that. I say that if I’m alone and unprotected that I should be able to protect myself with whatever means is necessary. I mean, if it’s me or him (or them)?? Guess what, I wouldn’t think twice about it.

This wasp spray stuff is billed as a “humane way” to thart someone’s evil plans for you. I really don’t think it’s humane at all. They would be in a serious situation. BUT — I would take my chances to be fined or sued or whatever if someone tried to lay a hand on me – I would use pepper spray or wasp spray or any other spray that they come up with next.

I don’t like the idea of a tazer gun ’cause you have to get too close to the assailant to use it. And then, it could be used against you. What do you guys think??? Please comment and let me know.

It will be nice to see all my old co-workers. I think that everyone is excited for me to get back to work except the one actually doing the work. (me). Let’s see, only eight years left to retire …

I like my medical insurance. I really do. I have Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I work for an employer and have “employer-sponsored” health insurance. What that means is that my employer pays around 50% (in my case) of the cost for me to be covered (called the premium). Now some employers pay 75% of the cost and a lot of people that work for the government (like state or federal employees), have 90% to 100% of the cost paid (or the premium). My medical insurance costs me around $200 a month. That means my employer is kicking in the other $200. This saves me a lot of money because not only would I have to work an extra 20 hours or so (roughly) a month – but, I would also have to pay taxes on said $200. Since I am a single woman and the government really likes to soak the “singles”, it would cost a great deal more for me to not be ‘subsidized’ by my employer.

The other problem with not having insurance from my employer is that I couldn’t get very good coverage. The benefits are severely limited for someone that purchases an Individual policy. That’s what the whole uproar in the government is currently about. Group insurance is soo much better than individual insurance. For instance, when I go to the specialist, it only costs me a $40 C0-Pay. In this situation, my deductible is $0 to see the doctor. Typically, if I had individual insurance, that insurance probably wouldn’t start paying anything until I had paid a deductible of $5,000 (it could be more or less - usually more). The reason for this is that (with Group Insurance), the cost of medical care is spread across a wider variety of need for said medical care. Usually younger people t hat pay premiums for health care would subsidize older workers because younger people don’t need to see a doctor as often and don’t take as many prescriptions as older people. Insurance is all about spreading the risk among different groups of people. If insurance companies had to pay out on everyone – they would soon go out of business.

If someone loses their job, how would they pay for the cost of medical care? That’s why so many people want Obama Care. Lots of people are losing their jobs right now. I read that the economy is not going to improve much for the next year. Many companies are not doing well. How is my company holding up? I wish I knew. They seem to be firing people right and left. The news is not good. What would I do without medical insurance?

Do any of you readers have any thoughts about health insurance? Do you have health insurance? Do you think the insurance that the Obama administration is a good idea? Any questions? I am an insurance agent – so I can answer any general questions you’d have.

The “hooker story” isn’t as exciting as you would imagine. My boyfriend, Harris, had been winning heavily at the craps tables at Ceasar’s Palace. Now Harris is a total nerd. He looks like a nerd, acts like a nerd (and sometimes a jerk!) and would def be someone a hooker would hit on. He was sitting out a few and was checking his e-mail on his nerdy I-phone. He was wearing a Ceasar’s palace shirt & cap (pu-leeze). The hooker came up to him (she was a black woman) and asked if he wanted them to “go up to his room”. He said he didn’t know WHAT to say and was afraid of hurting her feelings. He stammered out something that sounded like a “No”. And, she walked off, talking to her pimp on her cell phone.

I was annoyed with him for not just saying “No” right away. And, then annoyed that he felt badly when he said, “No” (or whatever he really said). And then, REALLY annoyed because he had to re-hash this story at least five or six times with me. Each time, sort of explaining (to me or to himself) why he had to say “No”.

Now, the thing is that I usually have to beg him myself to have sex (yeah, not kidding — that’s what happens when you get old)! I’m the partner with the high libido — lucky me. He doesn’t mind not giving me sex — so, he certainly shouldn’t have to justify his actions to the hooker. And, it’s not like I would appreciate him having sex with a hooker (or anyone else)!!

The other thing is that people always say that I look really good for my age (whatever that means). And, I constantly have guys hitting on me. The super in my building thinks both me and MY daughter are super hot and flirts with me all the time. Some kind of male fantasy thing, I’ve heard.

But, you don’t see me having to explain to people why I don’t have sex with other men. I don’t even mention this to him. MEN!!! Can’t live with them — can’t live without ‘em.
